AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 9:22 To the weak I became [as the] weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means [in any and every way] save some [by leading them to faith in Jesus Christ]. |
Bible Question: What does it mean to be all things to all men? |
Bible Answer: Footnote on 1 Cor 9:[19-23] In a rhetorically balanced series of statements Paul expands and generalizes the picture of his behavior and explores the paradox of apostolic freedom. It is not essentially freedom from restraint but freedom for service--a possibility of constructive activity. Footnote from the NAB See also 1 Cor 10:33: "...just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved." |
