Subject: Homosexuality, sin or not? |
Bible Note: Liberty Belle: The account of the destruction of Sodom and Gormorrah and the events leading up to it is found in Genesis 18:1-19:38. While it is clear that the sin of homosexuality was practiced in these cities, we should not assume that it was their only sin. Not even ten righteous people could be found in the entire city of Sodom (Genesis 18:32). In Genesis 18:20 God says, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave." The wickedness of the two cities was now complete (see Genesis 15:16). It had reached its zenith, a point of no return before the Lord. God demonstrated to Abraham how justly He assessed His time for judgment when He said, in Genesis 18:21, "I will go down and see." In summary, we may conclude from the biblical account that God's destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was brought about by their sins of homosexuality to be sure, but doubtlessly the unrightousness of these cities was not limited to homosexuality alone. --Hank |
