Bible Question:
Hello My name is Ben and i am 17 and i go to school in manchester, England. recently my friends have been asking me questions about why i do not have sex before marriage, and appart from the fact that i dissagree with it i think it is imortant to leave it untill marriage i cannot find any actual quotes in the bible refering to sex before marriage, i have found plenty refering to adultery, but i have looked that up and that means sex with someones wife or someones fiance. i would be very grateful if someone could tell me if there are any verses that specifically refer to sex before marriage so i can tell my friends. also in many places there are quotes about gay relationsships, but when i talk about it with my friends they always go 'oh what about lesbians, everyone loves lesbians', which is a stupid school boy quote but i cannot find anything in the bible which says anything about lesbian relationships. forever grateful Ben Rapley P.s. im terribly sorry for any bad grammar or spelling, I have dyslexia and i find it really hard. |
Bible Answer: Dear Ben Sex outside marriage is specifically referred to in Scripture as ‘fornication.’ Here are a few examples: (Mat 15:19) "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. (Mar 7:21) "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, (Act 15:20) but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. (Act 15:29) that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell." (Act 21:25) "But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication." (1Co 6:9) Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, (Heb 13:4) Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. Sex outside marriage is wrong because when a man and women have intercourse they are joined together, not only on the physical level, but also spiritually. 1 Cor 6:16 warns that anyone united in sexual intercourse with a woman becomes one with her, whether she is your wife, a drunken female student, or a prostitute: ‘for it is said, "The two will become one flesh.’ God has designed this level of spiritual and physical binding together, for you and your future wife only. You do not want to be united in the spiritual realm with strangers; it will lead to great pain and sexual diseases. Sex outside marriage with immoral women often leads to pregnancy and to the women procuring abortions. Aborting unborn children is murder. Women who have abortions suffer from a lifetime of guilt and suicide is sometimes the result. No good consequences can come out of such grave sins. God calls you to a chaste life. Chastity means abstinence before marriage and sex with your spouse alone when you are married. You will not find the word ‘Lesbian’ is in scripture, but the practice is clearly condemned. Romans 1:26 states, ‘God gave them over to degrading passions. Even their females exchanged their natural sexual function for one that is unnatural.’ This is surely referring to female homosexuality and other perversions.
