NASB | 1 Corinthians 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you [before you believed]. But you were washed [by the atoning sacrifice of Christ], you were sanctified [set apart for God, and made holy], you were justified [declared free of guilt] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God [the source of the believer's new life and changed behavior]. |
Bible Question: I've heard the concept of justification being compared (for the sake of simplicity I'm sure) to the phrase "Just as if I had never sinned." Is this really an accurate picture of justification? (Not sure what verse to attach this to...) |
Bible Answer: Dear load, As you can see from the subsequent answers that your question generated, there is the eternal, not-yet-realized answer (Yes), and the present, day-to-day answer (No). Which one were you asking? The soul might prefer the 'Yes', and try to apply it to the right now, which could lead to a denial of sin. The other problem is that many are led to believe in the infallibility of the believer and the church, only to be let down by the reality. Some become so disappointed in this that the leave the church, or even the Lord. An more honest appraisal of today will give us more appreciation of eternity. Let us all know the motive of your question. |
