NASB | 1 Corinthians 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you [before you believed]. But you were washed [by the atoning sacrifice of Christ], you were sanctified [set apart for God, and made holy], you were justified [declared free of guilt] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God [the source of the believer's new life and changed behavior]. |
Subject: "And that is what some of you WERE." |
Bible Note: "And that is what some of you WERE." 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NIV) 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. "And that is what some of you were." WERE, past tense. You WERE immoral, idolators, adulterers, etc. But now you have been washed, sanctified and justified. That is what some of you were; but it is no longer what you are. AMPLIFIED 1 John 3:9-10 No one born (begotten) of God [DELIBERATELY, KNOWINGLY, AND HABITUALLY] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life...remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ).
