Bible Note: In my own understanding of the situation like you implied religion could be the scapegoat and there could be deeper problems. Well in the early part of our marriage my problem was that I perceived that he put others first. Later I realised that he was just being extrovertish. For lack of assurance I clamoured for his attention. Just 2 years back we had done a personality typing, and confirmed that we are 100 percent opposite of each other. ie. extrovert-introvert feeling-thinking sensing-judging perceiving-intuitive. He being the former and I the latter. Though we should not rely on psychology totally for our answers, it just point to the difficulty in relating. Our communication are just at cross-fire. Well we managed 20 years of togetherness so far. Other things count against us. His cultural background is one of Asian communal social group and I of the city, the high spirited independent who treasures autonomy though an adapted introvert who will touch base with people at work and church. Sometimes, I purpose to bring a nonchristian colleague to church and he would object. "Why can't they go on their own?" 2 years ago, I was high with enthusiasm for God and he challenged my wish to worship only at one church. Today, the fire is quite dampened from the standoffs although my faith in God is there it is quite subdued. |
