Bible Question: Does this verse speak against denominational christianity? My Catholic spouse speaks against offshoots and chose to contend with me after 20 years of marriage, just because I found my own church just recently. |
Bible Answer: Joyce, I offshoots or splinters organizationally of the original church, but not the Catholic church. (1 Corinthians 3)People actually do often answer scriptural questions with the response, "I am a _____". Believers often accept their denominational doctrines over scripture. This is following men rather than God. One should never get 'locked in' to a denomination in such a way that they cease to hear the Holy Spirit because they choose their denomination over truth. Now having said that I must point out that all born again believers are in the 'body of Christ' which is the spiritual church. When we begin to mature and depend less and less on the teachings of men and depend more and more on the teaching of scripture by the Holy Spirit, we will see denominational barriers less and less and see the body as one more and more..and often this leads believers to seek out other groups which believe more in line with what they believe. As for your husband's protest..be cautious that you remain meek and submissive. Let the love of God RULE. Be sure this does not become an avenue for the devil to cause division in your home. There are worse things than being in a church you disagree with. I suggest you encourage your husband to keep the spiritual communication lines open in your home and also pray for your marriage to grow in unity of spirit. This is God's will for the marriage. I suggest Colossians chapter 1 as an excellent prayer for the husband (or a wife). God bless |
