Subject: How to harmonize this passage |
Bible Note: Hi Steve, 1 Corinthians 14:32,32, says, "For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; for God is not a God of confusion but of peace." The period after peace is an alternate reading in the margin of my Study Bible. What I can picture in my mind is Paul using the next two verses as a prophecy that is subject to prophets. Here is what is subject to prophets, "As in all the churches of the saints, let the women keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but let them subject themselves, just as the Law also says. And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church." In my mind I can hear Paul responding to this prophecy, "Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only?" I think that Paul would have all of us, men and women, built up in Him and established in our faith; not according to the traditions of men but according to Christ. See Colossians 2:6-8.
