Bible Question:
I go to a church that when our congregation prays for someone that is requesting prayer you here a lot of them speaking in tongues around you. Even the pastor as he prays will sometimes speak in tongues, or sing in togues. So when I read in corinthians about speaking in tongues it cobnfused me, because what I got out of it is that you are not supposed to do that. For reasoning say if I brought someone with me to church for the first time they would probably think it was crazy and be scared to come back again. Then I also though if it was wrong then why would the pastor allow it so that's where the con fusion comes. PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS CONFUSION LET ME KNOW!! |
Bible Answer: Greetings Seeker! I can only give you my perspective of this question. :-) Simply put, very view people actually follow the commands of Scripture when it comes to tongues. Either they will be explained away completely as not for today, or they will be unduly focused upon and practiced in a manner that is inconsistent with the commands of Scripture. Scripture simply never allows for mass, uninterpreted tongues speaking in a service. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
