NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue [this] love [with eagerness, make it your goal], yet earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual gifts [to be used by believers for the benefit of the church], but especially that you may prophesy [to foretell the future, to speak a new message from God to the people]. |
Bible Question: Was speaking in tounges only for back then or do people still speak in tounges? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Marcie! The simple answer is that there isn't a single verse in the Bible that directly answers your question. However, neither is there a single verse saying that tongues have ceased (there is one which says that they will, but there is much disagreement over when that will be). There is a verse which says not to forbid speaking in tongues (1 Cor. 14:39), and there is also a verse which indicates that tongues should be a normative part of a worship service (1 Cor. 14:26). I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
