NASB | 1 Corinthians 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 13:1 ¶ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God's love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. |
Subject: Why do I want to speak in tongues? |
Bible Note: God's day to you, All those who go to people who speak another language wish they had the gift of speaking in tongues. However, was it ever used in the Bible for evangelism? Even at Pentecost, I believed Peter spoke in Aramaic. I believe one thinks in their native tongue, then speaks in a tongue they have not studied. I just thought there could be a problem, when one doesn't think in the language of the hearer. When I speak Japanese, which I learned as a child, my thought pattern is different than it is in English. I believe the gift exists, but is not a gift that one MUST have to show they are saved. There are other gifts given at the Holy Spirit's will. Best wishes as you go across the sea, Searcher |
