Bible Question: I find many scriptures that do not quite fit in with the Trinity teaching. Here is one in paticular I would like someone to help me with. In John 14:28 Jesus calls the Father "greater that Him" How does this remark fit in with the context of the Trinity? And why is the relationship a Father- Son relationship and not two brothers? |
Bible Answer: Hello Rob M., Try thinking of it this way. Jesus Christ was a man. But He was also full Diety. While Jesus was on earth He was like you and I except He was also God. This is hard to get a full grasp of the first time but the scriptures tell us this. Philippians 2 6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Jesus though He was fully God sufferd as a man. This had to be, so he could be a sacrifice for our sins. The reason for Father and Son would be just as the scripture you have referenced. Jesus "the man" wanted people to know God. Bringing people to God was His soul purpose. Jesus once said " I must be about My Fathers business." Probably the best reason for the Father-Son relationship would be so people could relate to the love God has for us when He allowed His Son to be crucified for the sins of man. John 3:16 So that by believing in Jesus and obeying His Gospel we might have hope of an eternal home in Heaven. I hope this has helped and if you have more questions please ask. Raven |
