Bible Note: Hi, Gunnie... This line of discussion makes me mindful of the point of contention that John Calvin had with the Roman Catholics. He criticized their use of statuary, paintings, and morality plays. They argued that the people were so woefully ignorant that they could understand nothing else. His reply -- and I paraphrase -- was, "Had you been doing what you ought to have been doing, they would not have been ignorant." The fool won't seek out instruction (Proverbs 17:16). It is silly to suppose that they will. Most of them won't ever learn to understand anything beyond the most primitive levels of thought, nor will they achieve a perspicuity much in excess of the monosyllabic!
