NASB | Romans 9:20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 9:20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers [arrogantly] back to God and dares to defy Him? Will the thing which is formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?" [Is 29:16; 45:9] |
Bible Question: HELP! Is it Okay to give God an ultimatum. To ask him for something (reasonable and not material) if I stop a vice that I have eg. smoking |
Bible Answer: It is never acceptable to give God an ultimatum. He just doesn't work that way. God doesn't bargain with people, as in the example you cited. Going back to the figure of the potter and the clay, does the thing made say to the One who made it, "If you'll give me A, then I'll give up B?" I am not upbraiding you for asking the question. I think a lot of sincere people want to bargain with God at one time or another. But that just isn't the way He does things. Grace to you, kalos |
