AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 9:20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers [arrogantly] back to God and dares to defy Him? Will the thing which is formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?" [Is 29:16; 45:9] |
Bible Question: HELP! Is it Okay to give God an ultimatum. To ask him for something (reasonable and not material) if I stop a vice that I have eg. smoking |
Bible Answer: You can give God an ultimatum until you are blue in the face. The real question is will God respond. From what I have seen, God will respond, but only if we are willing to deal with every card in the deck. God doesn't want half measures. What's the point of you quitting smoking if the rest of your life is still a wreck? If you are willing to turn over your whole life, then I think God is willing to listen to ultimatums. I'm not just pulling this out of the blue. In Gen 28, Jacob has left his house and recieves a vision from the Lord. Then he makes a vow (but it reads a lot like an ultimatum) "If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me food to eat and clothing to wear, So that I may come again to my father's house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God" This isn't like the drunk's prayer of "God, get me out of this situation and I'll never drink again." This is a true, "God if you will take care of me, I will worship you and no one else." That is the kind of deal that God can accept. |
