Subject: explain the doctrine of predistination |
Bible Note: Dear DocTheo, Those of us from confessional backgrounds agree to and embrace the wording of the confessions. A great deal of thought has gone into those confessions. I've spent a great deal of time in the past year alone studying, in particular, the historic Baptist confessions, comparing and contrasting them. I've read them over and over, discussed them in class, and heard lecture after lecture on them. That's why I can point so confidently to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith as representing my own theology. I don't even come close to being as precise and eloquent as the old divines. I would never have been able to word things as well as they have done. The best I can do for you -- i.e., the very best -- is to point you to that confession. If you are seriously interested in what my theology, go there and read it for yourself. Within the appropriate restrictions of this forum, I will be happy to explain any questions you might have afterwards. I'm also open to Email communication. Brother Tim is being very indulgent with me. He does not come from a strictly confessional background. Consequently, he is very patiently helping me to properly articulate his position. I have a great deal of love and respect for Brother Tim. I would not put words in his mouth about his own theology. The most honest method, therefore, to insure that I am not misrepresenting his teaching is to re-articulate it until he is satisfied that I properly understand. In Him, Doc PS You don't want me to quote anyone, nor reference any authority... does this mean you are interested in my ability to paraphrase, perhaps? ;-) PSS Welcome to the forum.
