Bible Question: How would I know that He loves ME? I heard that John 3:6 was only about His elect- like "world" doesnt mean the WHOLE world, just His chosen people. Who are His elect? And if He draws us to Himself, why doesnt He draw EVERYBODY? Thank you for talking to me about this. |
Bible Answer: Sorry, Anna... I had multiple windows open and got mixed up! :-) You can know that God loves you because Scripture says so: Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:15-16) You wrote, "Who are His elect?" The elect are those who manifest evidences of salvation and who persevere in the faith to the end of their lives. They are the children of God. You wrote, "And if He draws us to Himself, why doesnt He draw EVERYBODY?" A better question would be, "Why does He draw ANYONE?" God is perfectly holy and righteous. That holiness and righteousness would not be marred in the least if He allowed EVERYBODY to die in their sin. However, in order that the splendor of His glory be manifest in that His great love be shown, He has devised a way so that some might be saved. The offer is open to all, but many are called but few are chosen. In Him, Doc |
