Bible Question:
My discipler has given me an assignment...To research and write a paper on the spirit of adoption. I have struggled recently with all concepts of God in my life being shattered and the first one I am tackling is the concept of God as MY father. The difficult comes with trying to reconcile a perfect HEAVENLY father with my earthly father who was at the least abusive. I think the intent is that the research will show me more of God's character. She told me to keep it under 100 pages :) I'd love to hear personal stories or thoughts and I would especially love Scriptural references, commentaries, links etc. References I'm using now is Romans 8 (a good portion of it) as well as talking about slavery vs. servant hood and how it relates and about orphancy. Greatly appreciated! Stephanie |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Rom 8:14-17, 22-25, 9:1-5; Gal 4:1-7 ... Greetings Stephanie, I cited the passages on adoption. You may want to do an internet search on "spirit of adoption" My daughter is twice adopted. I as the potential father initiated the act, with no pressure from anyone. I was married to her mother. It is a legal process, so it did cost something. The payment was far less than our Lord's emptying Himself to the point of death. I had to let the world know that I wanted to adopt her ... even sent a letter to her biological father. All had a chance to try to raise objections. On the court date, no one else showed up. I still had to tell the judge why I wanted to adopt her. Once satisified, he asked her if she wanted to be adopted by me. She said yes. My name is on her birth certificiate and she bears my name and has all rights, just as she would if she were from my loins. I didn't have a adopt her ... she could of been my step-daughter. I chose to, because of my love for her. Also research the adoptions in the Greek and Roman cultures. Searcher |
