AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 7:25 Thanks be to God [for my deliverance] through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind serve the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness, my sinful capacity--I serve] the law of sin. |
Bible Question:
Hi Ray, Since the old man is crucified, why does Paul say: (1Co 9:27 KJVA) But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: ... A dead body does not have to be brought into subjection. Are you saying that Paul's flesh does not serve the law of sin? Thank you, Thomas |
Bible Answer: Greetings Thomas! Do you mind if I respond? In Rom. 7-8, Paul is talking about the sin nature (or the 'sarx'). In 1 Cor. 9:27, Paul uses a different word. He refers to beating his body (or 'soma') into subjection. In 1 Cor. 9:27, Paul is not speaking of a sin nature, but rather the kind of discipline that an athlete would use to win a contest. Two different words are used with two entirely different meanings. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
