AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 7:25 Thanks be to God [for my deliverance] through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind serve the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness, my sinful capacity--I serve] the law of sin. |
Bible Question: Is Paul saying that with his flesh he is serving the law of sin? |
Bible Answer: Hi Thomas8, I would have you compare Romans 7:25 with Romans 6:6. When you do that you can see that Paul has said that his old self was crucified with Christ. Romans 6:6,7, "knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin." When Paul is saying that he is now serving the law of God it means that he is serving in newness of the (Spirit ) and not in oldness of the letter. See Romans 7:6. The law of the (Spirit) --of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and of death. Romans 8:2 We set our minds on the things of the (Spirit). Romans 8:5 His (Spirit) indwells us. Romans 8:11. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God). Romans 8:16. And in the same way the (Spirit) also helps our weakness. Romans 8:26. We are called according to (His) purpose. Romans 8:28. But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through (Him) who loved us. Romans 8:37. The (Christ) according to the flesh is God blessed forever. Romans 9:5 Romans 6:22, "But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to (God), you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
