Bible Question:
What do we need to know to be saved? a) Do we need to know that we have sinned and that sin is displeasing to God? Is this sufficient? (Some people see a few external sins but do not see the internal sins and the sick condition of the soul that Jesus spoke of.) b) Do we also need to know and comprehend that sin results in death, judgement and condemnation in order to be saved? c) Failing to grasp the full sense of our sins (a) and/or the result of sin (b), above, is it sufficient to know that Christ died for us and that it was a really big deal and to be assured of His love for us and to hold onto this knowledge? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Tortoise, Yes, a person needs to know that they have sinned (Romans 3:23; 6:23), and that sin is displeasing to God (for example: Leviticus 20:9-10), for which the penalty is death. It is very important to understand that death is the result of sin. Man is, therefore, in need of a Savior because of sin and death. And yes, we need to know and comprehend that sin results in death. Once we have understood that we are guilty of sin and are in need of a Savior, then.. "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;" 1 Peter 3:18 "But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!" Romans 5:8 Once we realize that having faith in Christ is the only way that we can be saved from sin and death, then we must accept Christ by faith (Ephesians 2:8) and confess Him as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9,13) "With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation." Romans 10:10 Notice, Romans 10:10 does not say a single thing about baptism. :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |
