Bible Question: Was Abraham a jew? |
Bible Answer: Abraham was a Hebrew, that is, a descendant of Eber (son of Salah, son of Arphaxad, son of Shem, son of Noah). Members of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin were not called Jews until the Babylonian exile (except in the KJV). The Jews were distinct from the ten tribes scattered by Assyria, but somehow the term "Jew" came to mean any circumcised descendant of Israel. |
