NASB | Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 3:28 For we maintain that an individual is justified by faith distinctly apart from works of the Law [the observance of which has nothing to do with justification, that is, being declared free of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]. |
Subject: WHAT'S THE LAW |
Bible Note: You write: "At the time, salvation was through observance of God's commands, from the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) to rules on proper diet and the sacrifice of animals." But God says: NASB Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. AMPLIFIED Romans 3:28 For we hold that a man is justified and made upright by faith independent of and distinctly apart from good deeds (works of the Law). [The observance of the Law has nothing to do with justification.] No one was ever saved by keeping the law. "Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." There is a myth that in the OT era people were saved by keeping the law. It just isn't true. Romans 4:3 (KJV) For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Galatians 3:6 (KJV) Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. James 2:23 (KJV) And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. The just shall live by faith Habakkuk 2:4 (KJV) Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. No man is justified by the law Galatians 3:11 (KJV) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. Galations 3:11 (New Living Translation) Consequently, it is clear that no one can ever be right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life." Two different ways of being saved? Not according to the Bible. Since the law was not given as a way to be saved in the first place, why do people keep arguing that in the NT era we are not saved by keeping the law? No one was ever saved by keeping the law. Not in the OT. Not in the NT. Not today. And not in the future. ********** 'By way of correction, we are justified before God by faith, not by works (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9). The reason we do good works is because we are saved, not to get saved and not to keep ourselves saved' (www.carm.org/dialogues/keep_law.htm). * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.seekfind.org Christian Search Engine |
