Bible Question:
My boyfriend is haveing serious problems with is walk with God. He's always searching for answers on how to be a better man of God, on faith, salvation, etc. I can show him every verse I find that explains his questions but he twists the verses around in his mind that it leaves him empty again. He does not want to have a TV in his home when he has children because everything they watch should be about God or it is bad. I do not agree. I agree on limiting the amount of TV and the trash on TV. And when Tv is consuming so much of your time that it interferes with your walk with God. He is not happy because he is trying to make everything perfect and he is making himself miserable in the process and I think really missing out on the greatness of God. NO matter what you say or what you give him to read he still feels like he is not doing enough and I just don't know what else to do. I was just hopeing someone had some advice on this. Thanks |
Bible Answer: I believe it is a subject where you just can pray and also let God guide you and also guide people around you. You say that "he is making himself miserable in the process", what does he say?. Maybe he doesn't feel that way. By example, I have plans to read the Lord of the Rings saga and to watch the movies(I wathc movies very late :) ). I have two good friends that don't approve it be cause it has (without a doubt) New Age and Ocultism influences. I want to read it because I love to read and it is one of the greatest tales in the U.K literature and World's literature. And of course one wich is beeing read by thousands of teenagers(my main ministery is with them). I read more/less three times more Christian Literature(Bible at the top ;-P ) than Secular, and by now I don't feel any hesitation in my heart nor other spiritual sign from God telling me not to do it. So I don't think it won't be more trouble for me. The position of my friends is that it is New Age and Ocultism and they are not going to read it and I shouldn't be doing it. period. I disagree with them but also I can understand their position. Our friendship hasn't been damaged for it. The only thing is that I can't invite them to watch the movie. Sorry, so much talk... point I try to rescue is that if He's trying to be a good christian and to rule himself with certain principles because he has to do it (law) and not because God's love has convinced his heart sincerelly (grace) sooner or later God will take care of him and guide him to the joy of serve and to be in God's side just for love, nothing else. But also there is the possibility that he actually feels the need of such rules just as an expression of his love forGod not an obbligation (as my friends don't watching Lord of the Rings). If this is the case you may be able to talk to him about it and to find a way of sharing this difference of opinion as part of your relation, praying God to guide both of you together for the right path. my best wishes for both of you! |
