Bible Question:
According to Rom 13:1, we have to be in subjection to the governing authorities. The reasons given are all governing authorities are established by God and their authorities are orginated from God. My questions are: 1. What are the background when Paul wrote the above verse? 2. Why God sometimes establish governing authorities which are against God (e.g. countries that worhship ideols)? 3. If the governing authorities are against God, why have we to be in subjection to these authorities? How can we live under and respond to the foregoing authorities? |
Bible Answer: Hello, cklamhk. Acts 5:17-29 provides a model for how a Christian should deal with civil authority. The conclusion of the matter is this: when civil law is in direct conflict with God's law, "We ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29). ..... I will not presume even to attempt an answer to your question 2 that begins with, "Why God...?" God is God. God is sovereign. How dare I presume to ask or answer why He does what He does? I am not sovereign. I am not omnipotent. I am not omniscient. I am not holy. He alone is. --Hank |
