Bible Question:
Can one believe that Jesus was raised from the dead and yet refuse to believe in His deity? The word for Lord here troubles me a bit - not being a greek scholar how does kurios (from kuros authority; lord, master) translate to the Godhead? |
Bible Answer: Without the resurrection of Christ from the dead, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians, there would be no resurrection and we all would stil be in our sins. Why would be be in our sin still if Christ had not raised from the dead? Christ was the perfect sacrifice because he was sinless. Christ, as it says in John 1:1 was "with God and was God in the beginning". So can you believe that Christ resurrected and not believe his deity? The answer is yes you can believe it but it won't do you any good because Christ himself resurrected Lazarus from the dead. I believe that but I don't believe that he was deity even though God (Jesus) raised him from the dead. I believe Jesus is God because he clearly said he was God in John 10:30 and the Jews wanted to kill him because he claimed he was God in John 10:36 and he even said if you don't believe I am doing the Father's works don't believe me but if I am doing the Father's works believe the works that I do and know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father. Hope this helps. If not write back and we all could discuss more. blessings |
