Subject: AA agnostic wants practical proof of God |
Bible Note: Hi, Chad. Those were impressive statistics: 83 percent vs. 3 percent recovery rates for Christian-based rehab programs and secular-based ones respectively. That's heartening -- such an overwhelming difference. Sounds like the score when the Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the Texas Longhorns. (Wait till I hear from Reformer Joe on this one :-) .... But we believers not only believe, but deep down in our hearts we KNOW that God can and does work mighty works through His people and mightier works through His word. He did it in Abraham's time and He does it in our time. I think the original question had something to do with convincing an atheist or agnostic of the existence of God. I know three men whose lives have touched mine profoundly who began their search for truth and meaning in life as atheists, came to know Christ, and eventually became powerful and influential apologists for the faith. Here's how it came about: Each of these men had been "talked to" by Christian friends, invited to church and all that. But their response was Foolishness! Hogwash! No Way! By and by came along to each of these three men three friends, kind and unassuming, who merely placed in the hand of each a copy of the Bible and asked him to read it through before giving up on God. Each man did and the results were as I have indicated: they surrendered to the authority of Jesus Christ, they were regenerated, they became staunch defenders of the faith. When a lean and hungry man comes to our door, do we invite him in for a discussion of the benefits of good nutrition, or do we ask him to sit at the table and set a meal before him so that he can feed upon it? --Hank |
