Bible Note: Inmyheart, I'm curious about your definition of "tongues" as the Bible typically uses the word, not only in Paul's Corinthian letter but in Luke's book of Acts. How would your definition of "tongues," and consequently your argument, hold up for instance, if you were to substitute for "tongues" the English synonym "languages" -- or more specifically "foreign languages," a term that the contexts of these passages seem to support? Does it strike you that possibly the original intent and meaning of Paul's discourse on tongues to the Corinthians has been given a modern spin that may be materially different from the meaning of the original correspondence? --Hank |
