Bible Question (short): Difference between tithes and offerings |
Question (full): I have a question about tithes and offerings. I DON'T want to get into a long drawn out debate about how tithes are not part of the New Testament. I personally feel led by the Lord to tithe and make offerings unto the Lord. The New Testament says: "God loves a cheerful giver" I enjoy giving cheerfully from the abundance the Lord has given me, of any time, talents, and tithes. My question is: What is the difference between a tithe and an offering? I tithe 10 per-cent of my after tax with-holding net amount, but feel the desire to give beyond the 10 percent. I think anything beyond the 10 per-cent (which rightfully belongs to the Lord anyhow) is an offering. And of course I also believe it's ALL His anyways. He has just given me stewardship over all He has graciously blessed me with. So is the offering anything I give over the first 10 per-cent? |
