Subject: Difference between tithes and offerings |
Bible Note: According to the OT Law, tithes were mandated by God as every tenth, animal, corn etc. for the Levites, widows and poor (a specfic function). Now offerings on the other hand are the things you gave to God out of the goodness of your heart. I don't find anywhere in scripture where it was beyond your tithes of 10 percent. That is a misconception preached over the pulpit (somebody correct me with scripture if I'm wrong). Give what God has purposed in your heart. Don't limit yourself to the legalism by giving 10 percent here then contemplating or thinking that you can't give beyond that. We have to have the mind of giving without the benefits of tax returns, write-offs, etc. If I gave 10 percent because I knew I was going to get some tax benefit, then why am I really giving? Take Care. |
