AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 11:26 and when he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. For an entire year they met [with others] in the church and instructed large numbers; and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians. [Acts 26:28; 1 Pet 4:16] |
Bible Question: What name were the Christ followers of the early church called during the years following Christ's birth? |
Bible Answer: If we accept the years as you cite as being accurate, then Christ's followers were probably following John the Baptist before Jesus made his debut with the conversion of water to wine. Then upon the followers graduating from John the Baptist's lead to Jesus, they were called Jesus' disciples. It might also be instructive to remember that all of the NT, including the Gospels were written decades after Jesus died and was resurrected so they were written from a historical perspective and for our benefit.
