AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 5:24 ¶ "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, the person who hears My word [the one who heeds My message], and believes and trusts in Him who sent Me, has (possesses now) eternal life [that is, eternal life actually begins--the believer is transformed], and does not come into judgment and condemnation, but has passed [over] from death into life. |
Bible Question: I would like to know verses supporting the doctrine that says once a Christian is saved they can not under any circumstances loose their salvation. The doctine commonly called once saved always saved. |
Bible Answer: Tamrenee: Here are some scriptural passages that are frequently given to support the doctrine of "once saved, always saved," perhaps better referred to as "the eternal security of the believer" or "the perseverance of the saints": John 5:24; 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 5:9-10; 8:1, 31-39; 1 Cor. 1:4-9; Eph. 4:30; Heb. 7:25; 13:5; 1 Peter 1:4,5 and Jude 24. The teaching is that all the truly redeemed, those who are once saved (regenerated, born again), are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever. This view does not teach that the Christian who has received forgiveness in Christ legitimately can continue in sin, doing things which the Bible forbids. This is antinomianism. But neither does it teach that good works have any salvific value; (Salvation is of God; therefore, good works neither save us nor keep us saved) but rather it teaches that the redeemed in Christ "are His worksmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." [Eph. 2:10]. --Hank |
