Subject: Why Did god call jesus his begotten sun? |
Bible Note: Hello Mark, It's important to emphasize that Jesus was not created! He is the Eternal Son of God! John 1:1-2 explicitly tells us: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God." (NASB) Monogene (Gr.) carries the idea of 'only' or 'unique'. Robertson notes, "(only born rather than only begotten) here refers to the eternal relationship of the Logos (as in 1:18) rather than to the Incarnation. It distinguishes thus between the Logos and the believers as children [tekna] of God." [A.T. Robertson, Word Pictures in the New Testament] Col. 1:15 says He was the "firstborn (protokos) over all creation", not first created! This distinction is significant. It is a reference to position, not chronology. To state otherwise is to deny the Diety of Christ and the clear teaching of scripture. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
