Bible Question:
Hey guys, can anyone hlpe explian this passage to me? I know it has a message for every christian outside of predicting jesus's death, but I can't get my head around it. here's the verse: "24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." |
Bible Answer: I'll make an attempt at this ... Jesus had to die to makes us sons of God. If he had not died, he would have been a single man before the throne of God, and our destinies would have been the same as if he had never come. By dying, we have all become partakers of the divine nature and made fellow heirs with Christ in eternal life. By the same token, the self sacrificing nature of the Apostles made the story more credible than ever. Who dies for a lie? In addition, your salvation is based upon belief and confession. If you deny Christ, he will deny you. If you die for him, he died for you. If you don't die for him, his death profits you nothing. This "die for him" concept may not be immediately relevent to the modern world. There is not a run on the bank for denying Christ or being executed. However, the principles inherent in the idea still imply that we should have a spirit of boldness and not be ashamed of Christ. Should the day ever come where such a sacrifice is necessary, make no mistake ... it means precisely what it says. If you try to deny Christ in order to preserve your own life, you will lose it eternally. If you hate (or "do not value") your life in this world and give it up for the sake of Christ and his glory, you will keep your own life eternally. This is my suggested interpretation and message of the passage. Any other comments, questions, suggestions? Theo-Minor |
