Bible Question: Is the Word-Faith movement biblical? I have recently realized the Church I have been attending for the last month is WF based. It seems God is bound by His own laws to give me anything I desire if I have faith (they see faith as a gift of the spirit) enough to receive my blessings. By the way I am looking for a new Church since the experience of being in a “Toronto experience” type service last Sunday that was conducted by a visiting evangelist who is a major player in the WF movement. |
Bible Answer: I too have been a part of the Word of Faith movement and I agree wholeheartedly with Mark’s advice, “move on”. Your own observations of the Word of Faith are right on. They have a formula on how to get God to perform according to their will. Never once do they allow God to be sovereign. By their teaching God is at our beck and call and He must perform according to a set standard. Two excellent books on the subject are “Christianity in Crisis” and “Counterfeit Revival” both are written by Hank Hanegraaff. Anybody that has not read those books and are in the Word of Faith movement are doing themselves and truth a big disservice. These books will open your eyes to the things that are going on behind the scenes that have been hidden from you. Things like “big names” going out the country to get medical treatment so they aren't discovered. The same people that are telling you to have faith for a healing because God HAS to perform. |
