Subject: The "Prophet".. |
Bible Note: Hello again, Ray! Yes, Acts 7:35,37 is interesting.. Both the Amplified and NKJV capitalize 'Angel' in verse 35 while the NASB leaves it in lowercase. I honestly could not tell you why the NASB translators did not capitalize here, since it was the Angel of the Lord that spoke to Moses (Ex. 3:2). I also have a copy of the Greek in front of me and the Greek word for angel 'aggelos' is also not 'capitalized' here in my copy of the Greek, so maybe there is something here that I am overlooking. As for verse 37, everything is capitalized in the NASB text, so there is no disagreement there. The Amplified and NKJV both capitalize 'Prophet' and 'He' (or 'Him' in the NKJV). As for Acts 3:22, the NASB, Amplified and NKJV all follow the same method of capitalization in this verse, capitalizing "Him" and "He". These studies are interesting, and I feel that it is most 'telling' when we discover where the particular translations (that we have chosen to use) differ in their methods of capitalization, since that was their 'aim' (stated in their prefaces). Good Study, Ray! Nolan |
