NASB | John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 1:18 No one has seen God [His essence, His divine nature] at any time; the [One and] only begotten God [that is, the unique Son] who is in the intimate presence of the Father, He has explained Him [and interpreted and revealed the awesome wonder of the Father]. [Prov 8:30] |
Bible Question: I'm trying to understand what Greek words were translated in the NASB as "the only begotten God". No other version I have found says this, and I haven't found this translation supported yet. Any info out there? |
Bible Answer: Hi, mercy4all! No man hath seen God at any time: the only begotten Son who is in the Bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (John 1:18) The Catholic Douay-Rheims 1899 Check also the BibleGateway.com: NIV on footnotes: 1. 1:18 Or the Only Begotten 2. 1:18 Some manuscripts but the only (or only begotten) Son KJV, NKJV, KJ21, ASV, YLT, DARBY: ...the only begotten Son... (John 1:18) As you can verify, it is not only the NASB version that uses the term in question! God Bless! Angel |
