NASB | John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 1:18 No one has seen God [His essence, His divine nature] at any time; the [One and] only begotten God [that is, the unique Son] who is in the intimate presence of the Father, He has explained Him [and interpreted and revealed the awesome wonder of the Father]. [Prov 8:30] |
Bible Question: I'm trying to understand what Greek words were translated in the NASB as "the only begotten God". No other version I have found says this, and I haven't found this translation supported yet. Any info out there? |
Bible Answer: mercy4all In the New King James there is a foootnote. NU-Text reads only begotten God. NU-text is the definition of the Greek work that was assembled from older manuscripts that were found after the Texus Receptus was assembled. In other words a majority of the oldest manuscripts use the word "only begotten God". the reason it wasn't recorded that way by KJV was those manuscripts had not yet been found. EdB |
