Bible Question:
I am a believer of the trinity. However, I do not understand how this is an explaination of the trinity. When I read these scriptures I understand that God is God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I know these are important men in the scripture that signify very important events. But can you explain to me how you interpret this as saying "I am the God of three persons" in relation to how you define the trinity. The trinity means to me "God in three persons" Isn't GOD the GOD of many who believe? The trinity is always coming up for debate. So I would like to have a response in case it is asked of me. Thank you very much. |
Bible Answer: Hello Noveta, I think where the problem is, is with the verses you chose; there is no sign of the trinity in those particular verses. I believe you might have your eye on the wrong emphasis. Mark 12:26-27 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? [27] He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err. The emphasis in these verses is on the living and the dead not on the trinity. Those listening to Jesus were of the house of Israel and they knew about Abraham, his son and his son’s son and those three were all trusting in the coming Messiah. Christ pointed out even though the flesh of those mentioned was dead they are still alive with God in soul and spirit. They were alive because they actually trusted in God’s Christ the one we now know as Jesus the Son of God. John 11:21-27 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. [22] But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. [23] Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. [24] Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. [25] Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? [27] She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. Emphasis is on those that live and not those that die as unbelievers; there is no hope for them outside of God’s plan for everlasting life which is only in His Son Jesus. Thus, God is only the God of the living not the dead. Those that die ouside of Christ will be by them selves in obscurity for ever without God. Have a nice day, CDBJ |
