Bible Question: Why do you think that the Shepherds were choosen to be told of Jesus' birth by the angels? |
Bible Answer: Greetings shortstop45us! Jesus Christ was, is, and will be forevermore be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! However, He lived a very humble life while He dwelt here on earth in human flesh, having a very humble beginning (being born in a manger)... "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid." [KJV] Everything surrounding Jesus' birth as a human was humble and meek, all except for the exaltation that He is the Son of God! "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." God chose shepherds to play a role in the coming of Jesus Christ to earth. Now why would He choose shepherds, when even the Egyptians found shepherds as despisable? (Genesis 46:34) The Egyptians refused to associate with shepherds, which was their custom. However, the Lord used Shepherds even as imagery for describing Himself! "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.." And since Jesus Himself is the "good Shepherd" (John 10:11,14), then wouldn't it be fitting to have a few shepherds present at the momentous Occasion of His birth? Blessings to you! Nolan |
