Bible Note: Hi Mark, This is indeed a very powerful arguement. I would never encourage someone to use their own wisdom to interpret scripture. The only thing we can do is interpret scripture with scripture. The Bible talks about the sun rising and setting. The Bible talks about the four corners of the Earth. Should we take every word literally in scripture? My answer is absolutely yes! Unless the context of the entire scriptures proves otherwise. The Bible teaches that the dead don't know anything, their thoughts have perished, and they do not comprehend the things on earth. It is in this context that I would suggest that when the Bible says it was Samuel it is in contect of the witch and Saul believing it was Samuel, but was infact exactly what we would expect should a witch call up a dead person to speak to us today. I feel it is very important not to place our wisdom or our tradition in a higher standing than that of scripture. Is that clarifying my thoughts or complicating things further? God bless, SBoone |
