Subject: IS LAZARUS AND THE RICH MAN A PARABLE |
Bible Note: Hi SBoone, We can leave this subject behind us if you wish, that's ok. I have one question for you though. How are we to understand the Bible if Samuel did not appear to Saul? What in the text actually tells us that it was not Samuel? And if there is nothing to tell us that except our own common sense, well, brother, let me tell you! My sense isn't quite so common, as those who know me better would be happy, oh so happy, to attest! But seriously, how would we know? If it's just opinion, everybody has an opinion, and coincidentally, one or two may agree, but how could we actually know? But if, on the other hand, God selected every word, intentionally, knowing that 3000 years later Mark would be scratching his head wondering if it really was Samuel or not, and since God wrote the Bible to teach us,well, why mislead us by saying it was Samuel when it wasn't? And if, in fact, it wasn't Samuel, then this is a misleading passage, and how do we trust the rest of it? This story was not written by a demon-possessed woman who was deluded by her familiars. It was written by the Holy Spirit, Who knows exactly what happened. What do you think? Love in Christ, Mark |
