Bible Question:
Have you ever wonder why the Bible never mentioned that Jesus laughs or smiles? (Correct and quote me if I am wrong) Yes, his teachings in mountain about those are blessed... "Blessed are those..... " However, the Bible seems not to mention his facial expression about happines. Has Jesus been happy in his life? The Bible has mentioned that Jesus Wept as in John 11:15.Is there a reason for it? Or is it Christians are like Christ that most of our lives have to be pain and suffering in order to be eternally happy!??? |
Bible Answer: Dear CalmRage, This passage mentions Him rejoicing. The Pharisees called Him a "party animal" (Luke 7:34)... hard to imagine Him being serious all the time. Especially when He says stuff like, "Hey, buddy, why are you worrying about a speck of dust in your brother's eye when you have a two by four hanging out of yours?" (Excuse the paraphrase, please.) Part of the trouble is that the language of the ancients does not always carry through emotions for us. We also get so used to reading them in a stilted fashion. Remember, however, that Christ was God the Son incarnate. Scripture says that Jesus was a man acquainted wth sorrows... and we certainly see that in His life! Nevertheless, joy is one of the attributes of God. Here's a verse that never ceases to blow me away! "The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing." (Zephaniah 3:17) Can any of us possibly imagine what that will be like? What will the singning of the Lord sound like? The roaring thunder of a thousand water falls? The deep bases of distant thunder? Wow! Just think about it! In Him, Doc PS There are only two instances in Scripture where Jesus was amazed. Both of them had to do with faith. Can you find them? |
