AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 8:33 But turning around [with His back to Peter] and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind Me, Satan; for your mind is not set on God's will or His values and purposes, but on what pleases man." |
Bible Question: This passage appears to say that Satan was speaking through Peter when Peter rebuked Jesus for describing His death. Was Peter possessed? Was Jesus speaking for the benefit of His disciples or directly to Satan?? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Chearie, Both of your thoughts are correct. Peter upon hearing Jesus tell of His suffering and death "took Him aside and began to rebuke Him". In this conversation Satan was using Peter as a means of furthering his own motives. Satan definitly did not want Jesus to be crucified because he knew that that would be His demise. He also spoke so that the disciples could hear Him so that they would have a better idea of how Satan worked. prayon |
