Bible Question: why was this church and pastor turned away from the gates of heaven when they seem to be doing the same thing every church of today is doing, what was the will of the father that they did not do? Clearly they believed in Jesus and did everything in his name, but not one was allowed in Why? |
Bible Answer: Hi, cem... Welcome to the forum! You say that doing and believing what other Christians do and believe ought to be sufficient grounds for redemption. However, in the passage you are citing our Lord says that the kingdom is composed of those who do the will of the Father (v21). The people doing and believing what they see Christians do and believe, are clearly deficient. Christ even asserts that they practice lawlessness (v23). Clearly there is something more than just doing and believing, not something that replaces those things, but something that is over and above those things. I suggest that you consider this question in the light of John 6 and 10. Seek out all that is true of those who are His own. Realize that doing and believing is not sufficient unto itself. Discover what God Himself does in redemption for His own. In Him, Doc |
