Bible Question: explain please |
Bible Answer: Charley: "Putting away" was a common practice. The wife was kicked out and left to fend for herself. The Husband could still clain his legal rights to her. So if she were to remarry and if some later date the the first husband went to get his wife back, she had to go back to him. Because she had not been given a note of divorcement. So in a legal right she had commited adulterry. Moses permited divorce but not "putting away". In Matthew when Jesus says divorce He is refering to the term of "putting away" which God hates! The woman was treated as property, and Jesus set new standards as to how a woman was to be honnored and respected. Does this help? I hope so. Blessings. justme |
