AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud [agonized] voice, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" [Ps 22:1] |
Bible Question: does forsake mean abandon? when the Lord was on the cross and he ask "Why have you forsaken me".. does that mean God abandoned him..didnt Jesus know his mission was to die and he would be with the Father. why or how or what does it mean, was Jesus saying, God just left Him there alone? |
Bible Answer: Jesus was citing Psalm 22.1. It was the heart cry of some one who felt abandoned. but the psalmist was not abandoned by God and neither was Jesus, although both felt totally abandoned. none of us can even conceive what Jesus suffered or how abandoned He felt, as He bore the awfulness of our sin, but in His Godhood He could not be abandoned, nor would the Father actually have done so. |
