Subject: An Amazing Quote! |
Bible Note: Greetings All! Many have asked over the years if God had really forsaken Jesus! Not to diminish the agony the Jesus experienced, I wonder if the cry wasn't meant more to point people to Psalm 22 than as a cry of anguish on the part of Jesus. His cry is a partial quote of the opening verse of Psalm 22. This Psalm is an excellent example of the dual nature of some prophecy. David penned these words about himself, as a poetic description of what he was experiencing. Yet, we find that his words find even greater fulfillment in the death of Christ. Look at the amazing amount of detail concerning Christ's death that is provided in Psalm 22. Verse 6 talks about Him being scorned by men. Verse 7 talks about Him being mocked and insulted by men. The exact taunt of Ps. 22:8 is even found in Mt. 27:43. Verse 14 mentions the bones being out of joint, which did occur during a crucifixion. Does v. 15 remind anyone of the statement, ‘I thirst’? Of course, v. 15 also mentions His death. V. 16 tells us that evil men “…have pierced my hands and my feet”. V. 18 speaks of the dividing up and casting lots for His clothing. So, maybe, Christ’s cry was meant more to demonstrate to us that His death was not some accident, but part of God’s eternal plan. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
