AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud [agonized] voice, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" [Ps 22:1] |
Bible Question:
Did the Holy Spirit depart from Christ when He was made sin on our behalf? Did He suffer spiritual death (separation from God) on our behalf? Also, do you think the Holy Spirit always indwelt Jesus while He was on earth or did He enter Christ at His baptism? Thanks for your answers. In Christ, Bill Mc |
Bible Answer: Absolutely not. Jesus did not die spiritually! This is created theology based on 9 words spoken in passion that happen to be the opening of the messianic prophecy. There is no Biblical proof to support such a supposition. Jesus was God if he had died spiritually then God would have been dead or separated from Himself. Jesus repeated the opening to Psalm 22 to lead any LISTENER to what was taking place. It was His last attempt to open the eyes of the blind and ears of the deaf. We won't know this side of heaven how many people got saved that day by this action. Everyone says God can't look upon sin yet in Job we see the pinnacle of sin Satan standing before God giving an account. Also notice God reaches out to us when we are deepest in sin and despair. If God will call us out of sin wouldn't he stand by His Son? Give me a break! This whole thing of Jesus dying spiritually on the cross is just made up nonsense and if you study you will find it started with some of the most unsavory of preachers. EdB |
