NASB | Matthew 26:24 "The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 26:24 "The Son of Man is to go [to the cross], just as it is written [in Scripture] of Him; but woe (judgment is coming) to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born." [Ps 41:9] |
Bible Question:
Would someone knowledgeable in Greek (like Tim Moran) like to comment on this verse? I wonder if there is anything in the Greek that would tell us if the sentence deals with the feelings of Judas or not. From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: Greetings Ray! I'm not sure if the Greek reveals anything special about this verse other than the fact that 'woe' isn't used of how someone feels, but is used in the sense of a denunciation. It is used 44 times in the Gospels (46 times in the New Testament total) and is always used in the Gospels in contexts involving judgement. So, I would defnitely say that the 'woe' refers to the judgement the betrayer will face, not how he would feel about what he did. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
